The CISSP is a vendor-neutral certification designed for IT managers who develop policies and procedures in information security. The CISSP credential demonstrates competence in the 10 domains of the (ISC)
2® CISSP CBK
®.

A candidate must successfully complete four processes to become a certified CISSP:
- Examination
- Certification
- Endorsement
- Audit
Examination
Before sitting the CISSP exam, the candidate must:
- Schedule the exam.
- Submit the exam fee.
- Declare that he or she has a minimum of five years professional experience in the information security field. Four years professional experience plus a college degree is also acceptable. An Advanced Degree in Information Security from a National Center of Excellence (or regional equivalent) can substitute for one year towards the five-year requirement.
- Complete the Examination Agreement and legally commit to the adherence of the (ISC)² Code of Ethics.
- Answer four questions pertaining to criminal history and background.
Certification
Before the certificate will be issued, the candidate must:
- Pass the CISSP exam.
- Complete and submit an Endorsement Form.
- Pass an audit of their professional experience declarations.
Endorsement
Upon passing the CCISP exam, the candidate must be endorsed by another (ISC)² certified professional. The endorser must confirm that the candidate's professional experience claims are valid. Candidates may also submit an endorsement form if an (ISC)² certified professional is not available.
Audit
(ISC)² Services will randomly audit candidates prior to certificate issuance.
