How to use the CCDA 640-864 DESGN Practice Exam

 Only Half Way There

First as one of the other reviewers noted, the Boson exam engine is no longer used with the Cisco Press CCDA book. They switched to PearsonVue's engine. When I went to try that software, I was given a practice exam for the CCNA. Still waiting on their customer support as to whether I will receive the correct exam. However it should be noted that the Boson tests that typically come from Cisco Press books are not actual Boson tests. The author creates their own questions and then uses the Boson exam engine for testing.
The boson interface looks like it received an upgrade since I last used it for TSHOOT. Now at the end of the test after it is graded you can review all the cisco site material for the questions you missed. That was an awesome addition in my opinion. As usual the CCDA test had great explanations of the questions, and going into the test I definitely felt prepared.
Unfortunately, after taking the test, I think that the Boson CCDA exam only gets you about halfway there for the actual CCDA exam. I recently failed the CCDA by a small margin, despite achieving over a 900 on the Boson Exam. There were numerous questions whose topics where not even covered in the exam, and only lightly in the Cisco Press Book. Virtualization is great example of this.
I will be going back through my study material, and will definitely be using some of the source material provided by the Boson exam website links, but I don't know what I will use it again to practice for the actual exam.
All in all, I would say Boson's CCDA is worth the buy, but I wouldn't rely on it as your sole means of testing whether you are ready to sit for the actual exam. Some exams like ROUTE and TSHOOT, I would say the Boson test is all you need for practice, but I can't say the same for their CCDA.

Why did Cisco change?

I noticed when I purchased my Cisco self study book for the CCDA that the practice exams were not Boson any more. Well after installing the "new" practice exams I fealt lonely. Gone were the well written explanations and beautiful interface. I had immediately purchased the practice exams from Boson and realized then that the depth of questions was greater than the other. I highly recommend Boson for both the UI and Content!!

Boson nails the CCDA exam

Fresh off my CCNA pass, I immediately went out and purchased the CCDA test from Boson. I knew what a quality product I was purchasing, and it made paying it out of my own pocket a little easier.
The practice exam drilled me on all the fundamentals that I should know prior to taking on the real thing. I did well enough, infact that some of my coworkers who are seeking this cert went out and bought their own copy of the software. Thanks again to boson for maing a great product that really gives you a real sense of what to expect on the exam without being a verbatim copy like other testing engines.
